Dream Big, Live Small: Lora’s Story

Lora Higgins’ life changed after a difficult job left her feeling stuck and unhappy. This experience made her think deeply about what really mattered to her. She realized she needed a change and took time to explore what she wanted her future to look like. After months of research, soul-searching, and prayer, Lora discovered the concept of Tiny Living. As an educator, blogger, and Tiny House dweller, Lora now enjoys a life filled with purpose. Before she found tiny homes, Lora’s life was busy and felt unbalanced. She was caught in a cycle of working to afford things that didn’t bring her joy. Her decision to explore the tiny house movement wasn’t just about finding a smaller home; it was about aligning her life with her values and living more simply and sustainably.

Lora decided to make a big change. She quit her job, moved across the country, and downsized from an 1,800-square-foot home to a 200-square-foot Tumbleweed Cypress. At first, she thought about building her own tiny home. “Although I loved the idea of building my own, it didn’t fit in with my goals, timeline, or ability level!” she explains. Instead, she chose Tumbleweed for their beautiful floor plans and quality design. “I chose Tumbleweed because I loved their floor plans and their interior design. Their homes are top quality,” Lora says.

This change wasn’t just about reducing space; it was about making more room for what really mattered. Lora’s new lifestyle lets her focus on experiences over possessions, build stronger relationships, and find joy in simple things. Now, she lives in her Tumbleweed Cypress at an RV park in Georgia, surrounded by a community that supports her values.

Discovering Joy in a Tiny Space

Living in a tiny home taught Lora valuable lessons about minimalism and the joy of living with less. Every item in her home serves a purpose or brings her happiness. This approach helped her focus on what’s truly important, fostering a mindset that values simplicity and mindfulness.

In her tiny home, Lora has two favorite spots. “The nook is the perfect spot to snuggle up with a good book or to relax with an episode of my favorite show after work,” she shares. This cozy corner is where she unwinds and finds peace after a busy day. Her lofted bed brings back childhood memories: “And the first time I climbed into bed, it was like having the cool treehouse I always wanted as a little kid!” These special places in her tiny home provide comfort and a sense of adventure, reminding her daily of the joys of a simpler life.

Sharing Her Journey with Others

As Lora settled into her new life, she wanted to share her story with others. The ups and downs of her journey to live more intentionally inspired her to write a book. “Dream Big, Live Small: A Guide to Downsizing and Intentional Living (or How Not to Panic in 200 Square Feet)” offers practical advice and an honest look at the realities of living tiny.

In her book, Lora explores how letting go of things often means letting go of stress and finding peace. She shares personal stories and tips on how to declutter, organize, and find joy in a simpler lifestyle. Her writing is warm and encouraging, making it easy for anyone thinking about downsizing or just curious about the lifestyle.

Lora’s commitment to living intentionally and sustainably continues to inspire many. She shares new lessons and insights as she learns and grows in her tiny home. Her story reminds us that a fulfilling life isn’t about the size of our space but about the quality of our experiences and our connection to the world around us.

A Meaningful Life

Lora Higgins’ journey is one of transformation and discovery. By choosing to downsize and live intentionally, she found a life full of meaningful experiences and connections. Her story shows that living large isn’t about the size of your home but the size of your dreams and your heart.

Through her book and continued engagement with the tiny house community, Lora encourages us all to think about what we truly need to live a fulfilling life. As she often says, “It’s not about the space you live in, but how you live in the space.”

Lora’s story is an invitation to embrace simplicity, connect with nature, and find joy in the little things.

“My tiny home just feels like me.  It’s very organized and functional, with lots of storage for the things I love in my life (like my books!).  One of the best things about a small space, is that every detail reflects who you are because it’s all more intentional.”
